Before you pay: a checklist

- Ask for written confirmation of dates, room type, price and taxes.
- Check the cancellation and refund policy before paying an advance.
- Prefer official websites or established booking platforms; be wary of payment requests via unknown links.
- Search recent independent reviews, and look the property up on a map.
